Family Housing Ministry Policies
Atlanta Urban Ministry
- Clients must have a job.
- All adults must have been working at least two weeks and must show
check stub or other documentation of employment. Adults should be working
full-time, unless they are a full-time student, in which case part-time
employment is allowed.
- Clients must have children living with them.
- The size of the houses available are matched with the family size.
Legal documentation, such as birth certificate or social security card,
must be shown for the children.
- Clients must come from a homeless shelter or a homeless situation.
- Documentation must be provided to certify that the family has been
living in a shelter. The shelter must supply a formal letter of reference.
- Clients must be willing to commit to a savings account.
- One-third of income is committed to a savings account. Money will
be returned to the clients when they leave the house. Atlanta Urban
Ministry keeps $150.00 as a deposit until the home is inspected and
bills are cleared.
- Clients must show effort in meeting their goals.
- At the beginning of the stay in the transitional housing, the clients
will work with the coordinator on setting goals for employment, money
management, personal improvement, and parenting skills. The clients
may be required to attend classes in money management, parenting, substance
abuse prevention, etc., or to get professional counseling.
- Clients must respect the property.
- The families must treat the house in a respectful manner without damaging
the house or furnishings. No drugs or alcohol are allowed in the house.
Non-compliance with any of the requirements, or giving false documentation
or information, will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the house.
